The 4th edition of the International Symposium, SESAM 2009, aims to support activities within the research-development and innovation areas; its purpose is to fulfil the following issues:

• dissemination, promotion and presentation of the scientific research results both of INSEMEX and University of Petrosani, also of all institutions attending the symposium;
• presenting the latest accomplishments in the symposium's fields of interest;
• permanent contacts and integration of Romanian specialists in the activities carried out within the international scientific world, as well as an increasing ability to provide personal solutions;
• identification and presentation of projects aiming international cooperation in symposium's field.
